ABOUT THE FOUNDER:

Jess Stewart

My heart and vision for Stewart Little Day School is to provide children with high-quality, developmentally-appropriate learning experiences that bring them joy and set them up for success in their future. Thinking back on your early childhood experiences... What brought you the most joy?

What comes to mind for me was my childhood home. We lived out in the country, on a couple of acres, my neighbors were my age, they had several acres of land surrounded by woods where we ran, explored, and played together all day long. These types of experiences are CRUCIAL for young children. Children are naturally curious - they were born to learn through play. I was incredibly lucky to grow up in an environment that fostered my curiosity, creativity, and imagination, and that experience has made me who I am today.

After working in traditional school settings, it has become clear to me that we can do early childhood education differently; intentionally fostering children's curiosity, creativity, and imagination. All children deserve the opportunity to explore and learn in nature through play and, at Stewart Little Day School, they will have that opportunity.

I am passionate about early childhood learning through play in nature-based environments. I value curiosity, creativity, and exploratory learning. With 6 years experience in early childhood education, I have taught pre-k in public schools and worked in the early childhood department of a public school district office – specifically overseeing curriculum and teacher development for the school system.

My additional credentials include: Masters in Early Childhood Education, Wonderled Educator certification, and Love and Logic certification.
